Starting
Power:
Begins with critical upgrades!
Taking your charging
system for granted may lead to a NO GO! |
An old or worn
alternator, stock battery cables, corroded battery
clamps coupled with
a starter that's on its last leg will cause hard
starting problems. On our Wagoneer project
we decided to go with a remanufactured stock
alternator since we don't have a lot of high
amp accessories like: off-road lights, big stereo,
air conditioning or a winch.
On the Wagoneer we
replaced our tired old starter with a
high torque gear reduction unit
from JCWhitney. To complement the starter an
Optima red top battery was purchased.
Heavy duty battery cables were added to carry all
those amp's to the starter.
If you have any or all
of the high amp accessories mentioned above;
consider adding one
of the
super alternators
to your list of upgrades.
Keeping your 4x4's
charging system up to par is an upgrade that will
pay big dividends
in the long run. Hard starts in the heat of summer
or the cold of winter will be a thing of the
past after you've made your Critical Upgrades. |
Upgrades you can easily do yourself. |

Extra
heavy duty 2/0 cables
by DEKO offer twice the conductivity of smaller
cables.
